Daily Meditation: February 19, 2020

"For I am about to create new heavens
and a new earth;
the former things shall not be remembered
or come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice for ever
in what I am creating;"

- Isaiah 65:17-18

This passage from Isaiah has always been very comforting to me. It seems especially relevant now. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by the events and drama in our lives if we give them the power to rule us. This message helps to remind me to take things less seriously. Events that seem all-important now will one day be trivial. They won’t just be rendered small or insignificant - it will be as if the brokenness of this world never existed at all. It’s wonderful to know that some glorious day the foolishness and the pain which seem to have no solution in this world will be completely forgotten in God’s kingdom and everything will be made clear. It brings to mind a favorite C.S. Lewis quote: “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” I don’t know what God has in store but I am sure of this: it will be completely beyond my imagining.

"Dearest God, 'we pray that the eyes of our hearts may be enlightened in order that we may know the hope to which You have called us, the riches of your glorious inheritance in the saints and your incomparably great power.' In Christ our Lord, Amen."
