Trinity’s Lower School, encompassing grades one through four, moves children forward with an increased emphasis on basic academic skills in language arts, math, social studies, and science. These skills are taught through an integrated approach to help children make valuable connections, and cooperative spirit is encouraged through the interactions within small group work.
The curriculum is broadened with many special subjects, including French, art, music, physical education, library, religious studies, and skills for living. In Lower School, teachers use the same Responsive Classroom approach practiced in Preschool. Clear expectations are stated for the students, and an atmosphere of risk taking in a safe and supported environment is created. Our students are highly motivated and well prepared for the challenges that each new level presents.
Beginning our days in Chapel is a unique experience where the message becomes a part of our daily lives. Students begin in Preschool learning and practicing the "I Care Rules" and move to Lower School where the words of the school prayer, "gentle, generous, truthful, kind and brave" are integrated into everyday activities. These words are a virtue mantra within the Trinity community, conveying the core values and expectations for everyone who chooses to work and play inside our walls. Character education is built into everything that we do; we stimulate not only minds, but also hearts.
