The Rev. Lex Breckinridge
Interim Rector
Office: 504-670-2524
Lex is a native West Virginian and a cradle Episcopalian. He graduated from St Paul’s School in Concord NH, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (AB Religion and History ‘74) and Tulane University School of Law (JD ’79). Lex married his law school classmate, Zonnie, and they practiced law and raised a family in New Orleans for the next 16 years, during which they were active members of Trinity.
Lex had been discerning a call to ordained ministry for a number of years and finally, with the encouragement of Zonnie and Hill Riddle, Trinity’s Rector at the time, Lex and Zonnie and their three children, Alexander, Barbara and Robert, set off for seminary in Austin TX in 1995. After graduation from The Seminary of the Southwest (MDiv ’98) and ordination, Lex served variously as Curate, St Michael’s, Austin; Rector, St Alban’s, Austin; and Upper School Chaplain and Instructor of Religious Studies, St Andrew’s Episcopal School, Austin. In 2009, Lex was called to serve as Rector of St Thomas, Medina, a large parish in suburban Seattle where he led two capital stewardship campaigns resulting in the construction of a new parish life center and the complete renovation and expansion of the church building itself.
Following retirement in 2021, Lex and Zonnie bought a little cottage Uptown where they intended to spend the winter months and be closer to their New Orleans family. A bonus was reconnecting with their beloved Trinity, never imagining that the opportunity to serve Trinity in this new way as Interim Rector might arise. But so it has, a great blessing for both Zonnie and Lex.
In his free time, Lex enjoys being with his extended family (especially chasing grandchildren) reading, cooking, hiking, and exploring the many mysteries and delights of New Orleans culture.
