Loaves and Fishes, Africa is a small but vibrant ministry that grew out of our own Trinity Loaves and Fishes. In 2006, following Katrina, Esther Muguro and her family came to New Orleans so that she could study Public Health at Tulane University. Pastor Moses worked for Trinity and their older children, Wisdom and Gloria attended Trinity School. During that time, Moses began to dream of taking a ministry like Trinity Loaves and Fishes to Nairobi, Kenya, where he serves one of the most desolate slums in the world. Their ministry (Loaves and Fishes, Africa) provides accessibility to clean water and sanitation where it is currently lacking, as well as supporting schools that serve children in extreme poverty with food, tuition and after school activities. Here are some highlights of their 2023 Ministry, in the words of Pastor Moses.
"This year has not been easy because of low funds, but we thank God our contributors and especially the parishioners and Women of Trinity Church (WOTC) for standing with us.
In 2023, Loaves and Fishes, Africa installed a reverse osmosis filtration unit at Utawala School which offers clean water to 370 students, which has been a godsend for these children. Every six months we need to replace the filter ($210). Loaves and Fishes, Africa also supported 80 students from Utawala Elementary school to participate in an educational trip to Thomson's falls in Thika, in the central part of Kenya. The students were excited to study nature, rocks and environmental science.
We also assisted Good Tidings Church and School in their ongoing toilet construction. This is as a result of cholera invasion in the area with many people getting sick, and we stood in the gap for this community. The toilets will serve 400 people. It is our hope that we might be able to build another one to serve the school.
We continue to distribute individual and family size water filters and to offer meals to the children when possible. To keep our youth busy, we added basketball tournaments to our activities which has attracted many kids and keeps them busy every other day of the week. This is in addition to our lessons in carpentry and music.
By the grace of God, and with your help we have provided lunch support to Holy Unity St. Michael students, and the school is always grateful. We are forever grateful for Trinity NOLA’s helping us accomplish many of these programs, and may the Lord continue to bless you."
The Lord bless you,
Moses
