Everyday Trust

15Apr
For the Lord will not abandon his people,
nor will he forsake his own.

For judgment will again be just,
and all the true of heart will follow it.

Who rose up for me against the wicked?
who took my part against the evildoers?

If the Lord had not come to my help,
I should soon have dwelt in the land of silence.

As often as I said, "My foot has slipped,"
your love, O Lord, upheld me.

When many cares fill my mind,
your consolations cheer my soul.
 -Psalm 94:14-19

“Do not worry” and “live in the moment” are two sayings that are way easier said than done for me. I am a planner, and I like things to follow my plan. When things don’t go according to my plan, it can feel like everything is collapsing around me. It is so easy to only talk to God when we need something and to only be content in our faith when things are going well. When things don’t go as planned, we start to wonder where God is and why things are moving in a different direction.

When my Trinity eighth grade class went to Kadeleah, we all wanted to know when something was going to happen, how many miles we had left, or what time we would be eating. It was so hard to just trust the teachers knowing everything will happen as it should. Even though I had complete faith in them, I still wanted to know all the details. This experience taught me a valuable lesson of trying to make my mind rest and accepting this was not in my control. The Lord asks us to do the same. We can plan our life out all we want, however ultimately we are following God's plan. We must trust that the Lord will never abandon us and He cares for His people more than we will ever know. In life and in the Bible, God shows us constantly how He shows up for his people. God wants nothing but the best for His children as we can see by the countless blessings He gives us in everyday life.

Musical Reflection - Genevan Psalter Psalm 94 setting by Goudimel - viols and organ

God, grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,

enjoying one moment at a time;

accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;

taking, as Jesus did,

this sinful world as it is,

not as I would have it;

trusting that You will make all things right

if I surrender to Your will;

so that I may be reasonably happy in this life

and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.
