We will recount to generations to come the praiseworthy deeds and the power of the Lord, and the wonderful works he has done. So that they might put their trust in God, and not forget the deeds of God, but keep his commandments…
- Psalm 78:4,7
Recently, my children have had a lot of questions about why certain things in life happen. These questions have likely come from having some family and friends battle assorted difficulties beyond their control. Whenever we (or those around us) are faced with hard things, especially those beyond our control, it is hard to understand. We often don’t have an answer as to why.
A devotion that I was reading the other day had a great takeaway for leaning on God in challenging times. I thought I would share it.
God is our ROCK.
R — Remember what God has done for us. Think about things from the past, or even in scripture, and recall the times he has helped us.
O — Open yourself to what God might be teaching you. Don’t ask ‘why me’ but try to ask, ‘what could be my lesson?’ (I would say this is the hardest one to practice during hard times.)
C — Cry out to God. It’s okay to talk honestly to God and voice your stress and frustration. We can cry and yell … he knows what we are thinking!
K — Keep the faith and continue to move forward, taking it one moment or day at a time.
