Whenever I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you.
-Psalm 56:3
Life is scary, especially when you’re the grown up! I have often said to myself (and to others), “where is that Answer Book when I need it?” I have come to believe that we have to make our own Answer Book, but prayer and the Bible have proved the best sources of help I’ve found for doing so.
Ann Lamott’s book on the three essential prayers, “Help Thanks Wow,” provides the perfect encapsulation of how to talk to God.
And Hill Riddle’s meditation yesterday contained one of his many insightful gems for us, “I am much happier when I realize I don’t have to solve problems that belong to God.”

So today, I pray: God, I am afraid. HELP me know that I can trust you to guide me. THANK YOU for reminding me that you are there, no matter what, even to the end of the world, that you have the big picture, and that it will all unfold according to your plan for me and the ones I love. And finally, WOW, what a great gift it is to know you’ve got this. Amen
