Our "Tempest-tost"

16Jun
Restore us, O God of hosts;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved.

You have brought a vine out of Egypt;
you cast out the nations and planted it.

You prepared the ground for it;
it took root and filled the land.
-Psalm 80:7-9

God is good. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

I was born in an orphanage, but never abandoned. God was there and had a plan for me.

I come from immigrants.

My beautiful real family immigrated here from France in 1830 and Germany in 1840

My ancestor Roger Goodspeed fled oppression in England and immigrated to Barnstable Massachusetts in 1640.

My biological family immigrated from Scotland after the battle of Culloden 1746 where the Stewarts were hunted for a bounty by the British. Archibald Stewart’s sons fought in the American revolution. They were immigrants.

The Swedish side and the Irish blood kin left famine and poverty and immigrated here in 1870s.

“Her name, “Mother of Exiles”, from her beacon hand glows world-wide welcome.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

-Emma Lazarus

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Musical Reflection - Trouble of this World - Ledisi from "The Mahalia Jackson Story"

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
