Worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness.
Let the whole world stand in awe of Him.
- Psalm 96:9
Recently our Thursday Bible Study spent the hour talking about Holy Moments we have known. It was fascinating to hear the broad spectrum of memories that were recounted. They included physical, familial, sensory, and spiritual experiences. After this conversation, I began to focus on the meaning of the word Holy. After looking for a definition, I found one that resonated with me, “set apart for divine purpose.”
In our rite one service every Sunday we speak the words Holy Spirit, Holy Name, Holy Father, Holy Mysteries, and Holy Fellowship. I also recalled hearing phrases that include Holy City, Holy Angels, and Holy Matrimony. I’m sure you can name others. But, whether the word is associated with a being, place, or object, I began to realize that every reference to things Holy represents a very real connection with our Father, and each one is indeed set apart and endowed with a divine purpose.
We are now approaching Holy Week. As we walk to Jerusalem, stand at the foot of the cross, and bear witness to the resurrection, we have a perfect opportunity to spend time pursuing Holiness. And as we go forward, let us remember that God would have us seek our divine purpose not just for a moment or a week but continually in our daily lives. Our instructions are clear. We are commanded in both the Old and New Testaments, “Be Holy, for I the Lord your God am Holy” (Leviticus 19:2). Just as we aspire to love as God loves us, may we continue our journey in search of Holiness knowing that one day we will, with God’s help, recognize our divine purpose.
