The Greatest of These is Love

18Oct
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

It has been very hard watching the devastation and damage from Hurricane Helene, especially in Western North Carolina. That area holds a very special place in my family’s heart. My brother, my sister and I went to summer camp for many years in the Brevard area and now my son does, too. Thankfully the camps were spared major damage and are intact other than some downed trees. My father attended Christ School in Asheville, which was among the hardest hit areas and where the images are widespread catastrophic devastation.

Every time I watch the news, I hold my breath thinking of the ruin of such a beautiful part of our world. No power. No water. Rationed food and gas. Flooded homes and businesses. For some, the feeling of no way out. When the news seems so full of and unrest, as hard as it is, it is good to remember God’s love for us and the fact that we can reflect his love to others and make a difference.

We, New Orleanians, know that awful feeling post hurricanes, the despair, the anxiety, and the sadness. Send your positive vibes to those living amidst the wreckage, send your love, send your compassion, send hopefulness and love.

We can pray and encourage one another, but there are a lot of discouraged people who are going through really tough times. God’s love will go as far as we allow it to go. God’s love will be felt as wide and far as we allow it to be circulated. He will channel is love through us and if we spread that love, we can reach the world. It seems like a big task but start it from your heart and allow it to spread to others. Continue this beautiful message of love and hope so that others can come to know God’s love, peace, and comfort.

This is one of my favorite verses: “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” (Colossians 3:14)

Musical Reflection - Love Never Ends - The Corner Room

Lord, we pray for those who have been devastated by recent hurricanes. We remember those who have lost their lives and we hold in our hearts the families forever changed by grief and loss. Bring them consolation and comfort. Amen.
