At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, ‘Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.’ He said to them, ‘Go and tell that fox for me, “Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.
-Luke 13:31-32
So there you have it—get out of my way, you foxes, I have work to do.
This short conversation with the Pharisees shows a side of Jesus you don't often see: anger, impatience, curtness. He has a mission to do and "do not distract me.." Time is "a-wasting" as my grandmother used to say to remind me that time is short. Get going on what you need and want to do.
Jesus realizes that he has only a limited time to do the work He was sent to do—healing, curing the sick, revealing God's love for all.
The same is true for us. Our time is limited. We are easily distracted in this busy world and there is God's work to be done. So however you are called to do that work: remember time is "a-wasting."

Gracious God, you who are so patient with us, give us a sense of urgency about the short time we have to do your will. Amen.
