Daily Meditation: April 12, 2021

by John Hevron on April 12, 2021

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter,” Do you love me more than these?”
“Yes Lord” he said “you know that I love You”
Jesus said: “Feed My Lambs”
Again Jesus said “Simon, son of John, Do you love me?”
‘Yes Lord “Peter said, “you know I love You”
“Then take care of my Sheep” Jesus Said
The Third time he asked him “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt that Jesus asked him the same question a third time.
He says” Lord you know everything, You know I love You”
And Jesus said “Feed My Sheep”

-John 21:15-17

The image portrayed is based on an Icon (a carved Bas-Relief of Jesus in his traditional garments) of the Good Shephard by Priestmonk Vladimir Lysick of Saskatchewan. My representation is a stacked version, using scroll cut Luan ply panels collaged and painted to give dimensionality to the finished work. My approach to art is similar to my approach to surgery. I study the problem at hand by a review of the literature, I practice the technique, consult with others if necessary and execute the work. I’m pretty sure that this is what other artists do. I have painted the Lamb Sky Blue to represent the Universality of the spiritual and physical needs of Others. (Big as the Sky)

During the last Supper Jesus predicted that Peter would deny knowledge of him, and that Peter would disown him before the rooster crowed the next morning. Following the arrest of Jesus Peter indeed denied knowing him three times. When he heard the rooster crow, he recalled the prediction and when Jesus looked at him, Peter began to cry bitterly. Peter then repented.

Following the resurrection Jesus appeared to Peter and his fellow disciples on the shore of the sea of Galilee and asked Peter to share a meal. Jesus then asked Peter three times if he loved him (remember the three denials) then he asked Peter to tend to the needs of his flock. This is what Jesus is asking of us. He is asking us to share a meal (communion), and physically and spiritually reach out to others.

The 50 Days of the Resurrection is a joyous time following the dreariness of the Lenten season. Jesus came back to reinforce the Christian way of living he preached and to reassure us all that he is walking with us through life’s journey.

Musical Reflection - Christ Arose!

Precious Lord, take my hand,
Lead me on, help me stand;
I am tired I am weak I am worn.
Thru the storm, thru the night,
Lead me on to the Light.
Take my hand precious Lord lead me home. Amen.
