Dear Beloved Trinity Family,
It is with a bittersweet heart that I share that I have submitted my resignation as your rector, effective January 30, 2025. My last Sunday with you will be January 26th.
Serving this vibrant and faithful community has been one of the greatest honors and joys of my life. Together, we have navigated seasons of profound joy and challenges that have tested our resilience and faith. I will forever cherish the ministry we have shared, the relationships we have built, and the remarkable grace and strength of this community.
Over the past few years, we have accomplished so much together, even amid challenges like a global pandemic, financial uncertainties, and over two years of displacement from our church and offices. We developed strategic plans for the church and school, created a campus master plan, and launched a capital campaign that has already borne fruit: a new administrative and pastoral center, a new turf field for our school and community, and a beautifully restored sanctuary, strengthened and fireproofed to serve Trinity’s ministry for the next 175 years—and more projects are still to come. Most importantly, Trinity has lived fully into its calling as a “big tent,” holding space for differing perspectives with love and humility in a polarized time and remaining a house of prayer for all people.
As I reflect on my time here, I am deeply grateful for the many areas where my gifts and talents have thrived. At the same time, I recognize that the administrative demands of this role have, at times, stretched beyond my particular strengths. After prayerful discernment, I believe it is best for me to step aside, so Trinity can continue to thrive under leadership better equipped for the administrative complexities of this moment. This decision also opens space for me to explore a path more aligned with my strengths—perhaps teaching in a seminary or university.
While stepping away is not easy, I trust this is the right time for both me and Trinity Church. Trinity is a strong and faithful parish, blessed with wise leaders, a talented and dedicated staff, and parishioners who embody the love of Christ in all they do. I have every confidence that the Spirit will guide you into the next chapter of your journey together.
Thank you for the privilege of serving as your rector and for the trust, love, and grace you have shown me throughout these years. Trinity Church and its people will always hold a special place in my heart.
In Christ,
The Reverend Andrew Thayer
As your senior warden, I echo Andy’s sentiments and am confident for the future of Trinity. The vestry has accepted Andy’s resignation in the presence of our Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Shannon Duckworth. Leadership is already working closely with the Diocesan office, as usual in a time of transition, to identify an interim rector.
Andy’s vision for our inclusive “big tent” community has become an important value. His dynamic preaching and enthusiasm for teaching have engaged and expanded our spirit. We are grateful for the gifts he has shared with us these last 7 years.
I would be remiss not to mention the incredible resilience this congregation has shown through the challenges and changes of recent years. Trinity has accomplished, overcome, and celebrated a great deal during Andy's time as rector, and I am confident this community will continue to move, with faith and some elbow-grease, from strength to strength. The dedication of our staff, clergy and vestry is unmatched, and I am thankful for their work-ethic and support.
Please join us on Sunday, January 26 at coffee hour following the 10:30am service, to wish Andy well in the next chapter of his ministry. We pray for continued blessings upon the Thayer family, Andy, Kelsey, William, Natalie and James, dear members of our church and school community.
With appreciation for your prayers and support,
George Young
Senior Warden
