New and Returning Acolytes Light up with Joy while Serving

All ages and stages are welcomed and celebrated in serving during worship on Sundays! Acolyte ministry is one of those special opportunities that allows elementary, middle school, and high school parishioners the chance to really get to know the sanctuary and our beautiful liturgy in a deeply personal way.

Since the return to in person worship with more and more readers, acolytes, and greeters joining in, Sunday mornings are buzzing with energy. My favorite part of new and returning acolytes coming together to prepare for worship: all of the questions!

What is the giant white candle for? What's carved on the altar? The altar can move?! Why do wafers taste like that? Why do we wear robes? And many more.

I especially enjoyed the recent exclamation, the aha moment, when a first time acolyte understood that the Tabernacle is where the Reserved Sacrament is stored after Holy Eucharist has been shared, to be saved for the next service or hospital visit. "It's shaped like a mini church! It's church inside of church!"

Each of us represents Christ, and we live into our baptisms when we serve during worship, led by the Holy Spirit.
