Anger?

03Jul
Be angry but do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
-Ephesians 4:26

Everyone gets angry. It is an emotion that comes with being human. It is nice to know that scripture gives us permission. Jesus got angry. There is much in the Hebrew scriptures about the anger of God. Then Paul in this letter to the Ephesians cautions us. Can we use our anger constructively? It is what we do with our rage that is important. Jesus drove the moneychangers out of the temple. There are many ways to handle anger. Whatever the choice we are not to nurture it. Do not let the sun go down on it. That only tears us up. It can give us ulcers. That is not what God desires. On the other hand our anger can destroy relationships. We don't want to give other people ulcers either.

Almighty and eternal God help us to accept our humanity with all its many characteristics. When we are angry help us to channel it in directions which bring healing and understanding; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
