Be still

06Jun
Be still and know that I am God.

-Psalm 46:10

When troubled or disturbed, I try to summon this verse and use it to calm down. Being still and getting quiet can be challenging is this hectic world. Our culture asks and expects us to be busy and productive. God asks us to be still so we can receive his love, peace and guidance. With too much busyness comes a false sense of security. We become disconnected from our spiritual side and more susceptible to fear and anxiety.

I heard recently that “fear is not from God” and “God is far greater than fear”. We can find comfort in such words. When we can slow down, relax, and shut off our brains by resting or meditating, we are doing our part, so God can do his. If we can let go and rest in God, we are more able to hear, know, and feel His presence and experience His peace and serenity. For this, we can be truly grateful!

Musical Reflection - "Music of Stillness" by Elaine Hagenberg. Oxford Choir

Loving God, as we learn to be still and trust in you, show us that we are never alone, never neglected or forgotten. You are the way, the truth and the light and through you, we can know peace. We pray this in your Son’s name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
