I under-prayed, God still over-delivered

04Nov
Hear my cry, O God, and listen to my prayer.

I call upon you from the ends of the earth with heaviness in my heart; set me upon the rock that is higher than I.

For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.

I will dwell in your house for ever; I will take refuge under the cover of your wings.

For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have granted me the heritage of those who fear your Name.
-Psalm 61: 1-5

I recently read this quote: “I am thankful, because even in the moments I under-prayed, God still over-delivered.” How blessed we are even when we under-pray.  I must admit, under-prayed is a new phrase for me, but what an amazing God we have who will over-deliver even when we might fall short. In those times when we are crying for help, do we feel protected, hear the calming words, allowing the heaviness in our heart to be turned over to God? I hope so.

Sometimes we forget that we are living in the middle of thousands of answered prayers.

You pray for strength: God helped lift your head and fight for the will to do more.

You pray for healing: Even if you hit speed bumps along the way, God mended you.

You pray for direction: Here you are – still standing, held in the palm of God’s hand.

You pray for control: The outcome isn’t yours to control, so release it.

Hope is a tool helping move your feet forward and reassuring your nervous heart. You are not alone. It can be easy to fixate on the gap of what you are hoping for and what’s in front of you, but God has a plan. And if you think about all of those answered prayers, you should be grateful.

Every breath, every morning, every day is one of gratitude. Let us remember that our faith is what truly sustains us and is the fuel that keeps us moving forward, even if we under-pray.

Musical Reflection - You Are My Hiding Place - Selah

Lord, I am grateful for time. Thank you for being patient when I am restless. When my mind is running faster than my heart, slow me down until I sense your nearness to me. Amen.
