Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth.
- Psalm 86 :11
Put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the water.
Put your hand in the hand of the man who calmed the sea.
Take a look at yourself and you can look at others differently.
Put your hand in the hand of the man from Galilee.
The words of this Gospel song by Gene MacLellen have been running through my mind this Lenten Season. Holding hands is such a meaningful gesture. We take a child's hand when crossing the street to provide protection. We clutch the hand of a companion when we are frightened to provide reassurance. We gently caress the hand of a loved one who is suffering to provide comfort.
How wonderful to know that the man from Galilee is unceasingly reaching out to us. The road to Jerusalem is daunting, so, as we journey toward the cross, let us hold fast to the hand of Jesus remembering that his presence is our source of protection, reassurance, and comfort. Through him we receive unconditional love and the promise of salvation. From him come the lessons that give light to the path ahead, Perhaps, if we can walk in truth with Christ, when Easter comes we will have learned to look at ourselves and others differently.
