Thank you for Love

13Jan
Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you something to drink? And when did we see you a stranger, and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply, ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
 -Matthew 25:37-40

I have some lovely Christmas stationery that says, “Christmas is Love.”  We hear that we are to open our hearts to Love--and then embody it in our lives. Several years ago, my younger son, Peter, suggested that at Christmas we adults give charitable gifts in honor of each other rather than material gifts. We have been glad for this practice.

As we enjoy love and good times with families and friends in this New Year, I hope we also can care for the many who greatly suffer—“the least of these”—in the United States and globally. This, the parable says, brings us to righteousness, and according to Paul, to “the kingdom of God” as: “The kingdom of God is…righteousness, and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)

Dear God, thank you for Love, and please help us to love our neighbors and to care for those in need. Amen.
