The Audubon Labyrinth

03Apr
Stand at the crossroads, and look,
and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way lies, and walk in it,
and find rest with your souls.
-Jeremiah 6:16

Two weeks ago, our bible study met at the labyrinth in Audubon Park. It was a fitting spot to reflect on what we had just read about John Muir. He has been called perhaps the greatest modern prophet of ecological consciousness and action. Among his strong beliefs is that “the whole sky and the rocks and flowers are drenched with God.” He felt that all ground is holy. Every moment is sacred, and our invitation is to wake up to this sacredness in all things.

As many of you may know, the labyrinth is an ancient tool which provides a sacred place for meditation, centering, and healing. On the labyrinth dedication plaque in Audubon Park, which was dedicated on Easter 2006, you will find the words “As in life, you will encounter many turns. Trust the path.”

I believe that when we remember that God is beside us on our life’s journey, we will find the grace to trust our path.

Thank you, gracious and loving God, for the gift given by the many who sought to provide all of us with the Audubon Labyrinth. May it help remind us of your presence in our lives. May we learn to always trust in You no matter the turns our lives take. Amen.
