Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
-Hebrews 10:22-23
When I was reading a devotion the other morning, this verse from Hebrews was shared by the author. If you are like me, you have a favorite go-to Bible verse when faced with something hard. “I can do most everything through Christ who strengthens me”, is one I often sing in my head thanks to growing up with Psalty the Singing Psalm Book in the 80’s. This Hebrews verse, however, is one that I am not as familiar with, and it resonated with me.
When I am facing a difficult situation, am I putting my full focus on God? I want to think I am holding firmly to my faith, but lots of times I feel frustrated and compare my situation to those around me and think they have it better than me. I like the thought of drawing closer to God when I am struggling and sincerely placing my trust in God and finding comfort in the Lord. When I am fully focused on God, I am much more able to notice God at work in my life. When I am strong in my faith, I can live without fear knowing God is with me along the way.
Musical Reflection - Have Mercy on Me - the Porter's Gate
Heavenly Father, I believe in You and trust in Your power. When I face challenges that I cannot fix on my own, help me not to give in to fear. Keep me fully focused on you with unwavering trust and faith. Amen
