Often we are doing what former Trinity priest John Claypool called “side-long glances”—competitively comparing ourselves to others and then either feeling superior or deficient.

Instead we are to know that we all are loved and are of value. We are called to appreciate the gift of life and the opportunities to grow in love and to do well with our individual gifts and power. For, “there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit…” (I Corinthians 12:4)
