Welcome to the Season of Creation, my favorite season we didn’t grow up with.
It begins with the Day of Prayer for Creation on September 1 and closes with the Feast of St. Francis on October 4. The liturgical color is burnt orange, like a sunset settling over a freshly harvested field.
Like the serviceberry, we were made to live lives rooted in relationship and reciprocity.
This past Sunday, August 30, marked our first Breakfast Formation gathering, inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World, as well as the beginning of our Creation Care liturgy. This little 90-page book draws a clear line from the natural world to how the church can work: as a gift economy, not a market one, rooted in relationship and reciprocity, not transaction.
Trinity Church shares its gifts of hospitality, compassion, healing, and belonging. In return, we offer the gifts God gave us in service to one another, our church, and our community.
