Proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favourable or unfavourable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching.
- 2 Timothy 4:2
“Throw out the life line, someone is sinking today…”
-Robert Lee Black / Grace Price
As many of you know, I’m blessed to work each day in the in the solitude of of my studio. Although life in its fullest is buzzing around me in the constancy of change, at any moment , joy or distress may enter. The delight of a sitting quietly or receiving a hug, each day is different!
To enter my creative world, the “victrola”, (Ha! That takes me back in time.) my music blares out and blocks out all but the communion of my soul in its most wonderful creative time as I paint and the music fills the studio!
Often messages come to me through the songs or tunes that inspire my work as paint flies and I travel the world musically. Sometimes when my heart is heavy, I turn to hymns, old time gospel is where I land in God’s lap!
This hymn really speaks to me and inspires the message of my meditation today. We are oft sent unknowingly to comfort, sympathize, or empathize with another sister, brother - a soul in peril.
In the 12 step program, I’m taught “to give it away to keep it”. by being ready. Putting on the whole armor of God, when the phone, or the text, or the doorbell rings, I am ready to sit beside, to comfort, or just listen when anguish visits my little “ivory tower” studio world.
In being ready and willing to be there for others, I am helping myself. Many have thrown the life line to me. My Cub Scout / Boy Scout roots echo : “ be prepared”….my faith speaks…” you know not the hour”.
Be ready to put down the brush and throw out the life line when Our Lord presents us a situation for love in action!
You will know they are Christians by their love…throw out the life line.

Gracious God, help us to see with the eyes of our hearts when people need to be heard, or seen, or loved or carried. And help us to follow your example to heal, hear, feed and love. Amen.
