I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
-Ephesians 4:1-3
As I Close my eyes and take a deep breath. I Feel the gentle rise and fall of my chest.....I reflect on words from Leonard Cohen’s poem “Anthem”...
“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in”....
I reflect on my journey through the depths of alcoholism, the struggles, the pain, and the darkness that once consumed me. But now, here I am, standing in the light of recovery.
Through the cracks of my brokenness, the light found its way in.
In the depths of my despair, I found something unexpected, hope. I discovered a deeper faith, a belief in something greater than myself. In the darkest moments, I found a glimmer of light that guided me towards recovery.
With recovery came self-awareness. I began to see myself clearly, I faced my demons head-on, confronting the pain and the trauma that fueled my addiction. Through this journey of self-discovery, I found strength I never knew I had and God’s Love as I had never known it before.
But perhaps the greatest blessing of recovery has been the understanding of miracles. I have witnessed the miraculous transformation within myself, the journey from despair to hope, from brokenness to healing. I’ve seen the power of redemption, the ability to rise from the ashes and start anew.
In recovery, I’ve experienced the miracle of second chances, the opportunity to rebuild a life and create a future filled with promise and possibility. Each day sober is a testament to God’s Grace.
So as I sit in stillness, surrounded by the light of recovery, I take a moment to express gratitude for this journey.
Through the cracks of my brokenness, God’s light brought healing and miracles.
......one final deep breath...I will carry the light of recovery with me as I navigate each day, knowing that through the cracks, the light will always find its way in.
Musical Reflection - Anthem - Leonard Cohen
O blessed Lord, you ministered to all who came to you: Look with compassion upon all who through addiction have lost their health and freedom. Restore to them the assurance of your unfailing mercy; remove from them the fears that beset them; strengthen them in the work of their recovery; and to those who care for them, give patient understanding and persevering love. Amen.
